PUBLIC STATEMENT OF PASTOR CHRISTIAN POWELL AND FAITH CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

RE: CRIMINAL ARREST OF A FORMER STAFF MEMBER
(Issued August 8, 2020)

As a ministry, we are extremely concerned and heartbroken when one of our staff members is accused of breaking the law. When the situation involves inappropriate conduct toward a child, our organization immediately removes that individual from any contact with children. This step was not necessary in this situation because the staff member has not worked for our school for more than a decade. Our church fully cooperates with victims, parents, state officials, and law enforcement. We believe that if children are safe anywhere, they should be safe at church and school.

Faith Christian Academy does not cover up abuse, and we have zero tolerance for child abuse in our ministry. As a matter of policy, this Ministry reports all suspicions of potential child abuse to the authorities. We carefully interview and screen our employees and volunteers, and our leadership team works to maintain child protection policies based on best practices nationally and North Carolina state law.

Attorney David Gibbs with the National Center for Life and Liberty will be conducting training for all of our staff this week to recognize and guard against any form of child abuse. Ms. Kally Roberts, Head of School, and I are fully commited to world class child protection policies for our ministry.

We believe that transparency, child safety, and accountability are essential for successful ministry, and we are fully committed to ministering to your children in a safe and responsible manner. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions.
